Your financial resolutions for this new year can be very simple and understated. We have discovered that having resolutions which you can follow through with is far more important than creating grandiose goals which have little chance of success. Your list can be as simple as the following; Checking your progress- Are you on target to meet your long-term goals? If your financial situation has changed for better or for worse re-evaluate your plan.Building on your successes- If you achieved a financial goal in 2010, pat yourself on the back and then apply the same habits to this year’s goals. Learning from your mistakes- Setbacks, like a job loss, may have made some goals impossible. But overspending on non-essentials may also be keeping you from reaching your targets. If that’s the case, make this year’s regret the financial resolution you master in 2011.

To BTC, or not to BTC...that is the question! As the discourse regarding the impending sale of BTC heats up, among the myriad of questions being asked is why would it be considered prudent to include the telephony infrastructure i.e. the submarine cables which link telephone calls between 1. The Bahamas and The US and 2. The Bahamas and the southern Caribbean via Haiti? In view of the fact that the liberalization of the communications sector of our economy is a fait accompli, how would including the backbone (i.e. the submarine cables) of communications in the assets of BTC to be sold create a level playing field for future entrants into this sector. Essentially what is being created in this instance is a tacit monopoly by virtue of the control being contemplated on behalf of C&W over the infrastructure necessary to communicate with the international community. These cables are responsible for the transmission of voice and data over high speed bandwith which will be necessary for every other entrant in the market. Hence, C&W could ostensibly refuse to allow any new service providers use of their high speed cables thereby eliminating any real competition in this market. With the new year upon us, mortgage campaigns by lenders are sure to soon be popping up everywhere. We suggest that you carefully inspect the conditions attached to the offers. In some instances, lenders may offer introductory rates and terms which increase after a specified period of time. Ask your broker to explain the conditions of the products being offered so that you don't get caught off-guard.
